Honey for Cracked Dry Heels

Open heeled shoes, sandals and flip-flops definitely contribute to cracked dry heels. From my experience, the summer is the worst for this although many have the problem all year round.

A properly hydrated body can help but for a topical solution is honey or a cream with honey it in. Pure natural Honey by itself can work wonders. Honey has antibacterial properties in that it releases hydrogen peroxide very slowly. This precense of oxygen prevents the growth of bacterial in cuts, wounds or open sores thus allowing cracks in the heels to close up more quickly.

Honey is a humectant also. This means that it absorbs and retains moisture. So, honey in the skin on your heels will keep it properly hydrated so that it does not crack so easily and if your heels to get cracks in them, the honey present in a cream will bring the necessary hyrdration back into the tissue allowing it to heal properly.

An infection can keep these cracks in the heels from closing up and often the infection is very, very small but enough to just keep the skin from closing up.

Honey has other healing properties - many of which we are still learning.

Apply honey or a good cream with pure natural honey like Thentix 2-4 times a day to help clear up cracked heels. To prevent them use honey or a cream a few times a week or if necessary once a day. You do not need much - a small amount - enough to just cover the area. It is better to do it more times a day than too much at once.
